The effect of moderate hypothermia (30 В°C) of different durations on the intensity of free radical processes in the blood of rats was studied. Body temperature of rats at 30 minutes was lowered to 30 В°C by external cooling and then prolonged hypothermia for 90 and 180 minutes. Analysis of the data shows that the short-term hypothermia stimulates but prolongation of hypothermia for 180 minutes reduces the intensity of oxidative modification of lipids and proteins of blood plasma and erythrocyte membranes. In erythrocytes glutathione content after 90 minutes hypothermia was significantly reduced, but after 180 min hypothermia increases to the level of control. As hypothermia prolong erythrocytes superoxide dismutase activity in contrast to catalase increases significantly. The obtained data allow to concluding that increased antioxidant protection reduces the intensity of free radical processes in the blood in the prolongation hypothermia for 3 h.
