The study discusses the influence of hypoxic hypoxia on energy metabolism in different brain structures – the oblongata, mid-brain and cortex – of white rats. It notes that marked hyperactivity of pyruvate kinase (PK; EC 2.7.1.40) was revealed in oblongata homogenates of 3- and 6-month old white rats, while in the tissues of other brain structures these indices were considerably decreased. The paper also reveals that hypoxia leads to changes in the dynamics of PK-activity in brain structures and energy support. Moreover, these changes depend on the studied brain structure and the animals’ age.
