Bivalves are an important component of complex organisms involved in the self-purification of reservoirs, the formation of water quality and improvement of sanitary-hygienic condition of water ecosystems. Monitoring study of the mollusk fauna of the Volga Delta has shown that the leading role of the mollusk fauna in all seasons of the studied years played classes Gastropoda and Bivalvia. The results showed that mollusks Unio pictorum, inhabiting certain conditions of the aquatic environment, can accumulate mikroelementy (Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn) concentrations up to 10 times higher than their content in the environment, i.e. from consuming the ability of Unio pictorum depends on the formation of water quality in bottom layers, change of solubility and bioavailability of toxic elements separate. Thus they reflect both spatial and temporal changes in the concentration of pollutants in the aquatic environment.
